February 26, 2024 – Amendment to the 2025 Comprehensive Plan – Large Scale Solar Energy Systems


Pursuant to the provisions of Section 15.2-2204 & 15.2-2285 of the Code of Virginia of 1950, as amended, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors hereby gives notice of a public hearing to be held on February 26, 2024 at 7:15 p.m. in the County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg, Virginia, in order to hear citizen comments regarding the Board of Supervisors’ intention to act on the following request:

To amend the 2025 Montgomery County Comprehensive Plan by adding information concerning Large-Scale Solar Energy Systems to the Utilities chapter of the Comprehensive Plan.  The proposed amendments include adding background information to the Current and Historical Conditions and Trends section of the Utilities chapter, and by establishing a new section 2.4 of the Utilities chapter to outline proposed goals for Large-Scale Solar Energy Systems within the County.  The proposed goals to be added include: establishing a maximum of 4,500 acres of allowed acreage for the development of large-scale solar energy projects within the County, promoting shared agricultural uses within large-scale solar energy projects, considerations related to project scale and project siting, and consideration of natural resources in the approval of large-scale solar energy systems.
