Montgomery County recently completed a comprehensive assessment of the County's Fire and Rescue/EMS system in partnership with Mission CIT, LLC.
The study evaluated fire and rescue services provided throughout Montgomery County, including services delivered in the towns of Blacksburg and Christiansburg and by the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad.
Beginning June 22, findings from the assessment were presented to the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors, Christiansburg Town Council and the Fire and Rescue Commission. The assessment will be presented to the Town of Blacksburg later this summer.
The assessment reviewed the current volunteer-career service model and provided strategic recommendations to support future planning and decision-making related to fire and rescue services across the county.
"This assessment was made possible through the participation and collaboration of our fire and rescue agencies and emergency services stakeholders throughout the process," said Chris Lawrence, Deputy County Administrator.
"County leadership, along with the towns of Blacksburg and Christiansburg, will now review the recommendations outlined in the assessment to support strategic planning and determine next steps for implementation."
