From the Office of Governor Glenn Youngkin, flags will be flown at half-staff on September 28, 2024, "in memory and respect of Private First Class (PFC) Morris Everett Canady who tragically lost his life on September 24, 1942 in Guadalcanal while serving in the U.S. Marines protecting the freedoms and values we hold dear. After 82 years, PFC Canady will be put to rest in his hometown of Bedford County."
