Amenities include a playground, picnic shelter, volleyball net, open green space, a trail along the river, and an airfield for the Montgomery County Model Airplane Club. A canoe and kayak launch is also available, which begins the Roanoke River Blueway that travels 45 miles and culminates at Smith Mountain Lake in Bedford County. Additionally, the annual Great Road Encampment is held at the park in October.

The playground features a “rock-climbing” section, slide, tic-tac-toe board, and climbing areas. A bench is also provided. This play area is located between open green space, the picnic shelter, and the walking trail.

The open green space is a perfect place for children to play tag, or to enjoy a game using the available volleyball net. Dogs love Eastern Montgomery Park as well!

A unique feature of Eastern Montgomery Park is the half mile trail following along the South Fork of the Roanoke River. The trail is a figure-eight loop with gentle terrain. A picnic table is available for a relaxing stop by the river. Watch closely and you may see ducks and other wildlife.

Eastern Montgomery Park offers a shoreline kayak and canoe launch at the beginning of the Roanoke River Blueway that travels 45 miles and culminates at Smith Mountain Lake in Bedford County. There are 15 additional access points downstream. American Whitewater provides information about water levels and boating on the South Fork of the Roanoke River.

Montgomery County Parks and Recreation provides airfield space for the Montgomery County Model Airplane Club. The club serves Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Virginia Tech, and surrounding areas. All are welcome, whether you are a seasoned veteran modeler, an aspiring new hobbyist, or simply curious as to what it’s all about. The club is chartered under the Academy of Model Aeronautics

Get together for a picnic or party under our shelter! An ADA accessible path leads from the parking lot to the shelter and the playground. There is seating available for approximately 100 people across 13 tables, including two handicap accessible tables.
