Crime Prevention
Certified Crime Prevention Specialists present community policing and educational
programs by working with individuals, schools, community groups, churches, and businesses. Specialists provide tips for keeping community members-homes and facilities safe, along with conducting security surveys upon request. Crime Prevention also installs lock boxes for county residents who may not have the ability to unlock their door in an emergency situation. School Resource Officers are the leading face of crime prevention which starts in our schools with our communities' biggest assets. The SROs teach both D.A.R.E. and Virginia Rules and a variety of educational programs in the schools, along with assisting school security assessments, student threat assessments, and emergency planning for their campus. In addition, our SRO's sponsor YOVASO and Help Save the Next Girl chapters within their school. When requested, the DUI/distracted golf cart driving program is available to educate student drivers about the dangers of drinking and distracted driving.
