7/21/2017 - Montgomery County Recognized as a Leading Digital County by Center for Digital Government

The Center for Digital Government (CDG) and the National Association of Counties (NACo) announced the winners of the 15th annual Digital Counties Survey. The survey, conducted by CDG in partnership with NACo, identifies the best technology practices among U.S. counties, including initiatives that streamline delivery of government services, encourage collaboration and shared services, enhance cybersecurity and even reduce carbon emissions.

Montgomery County placed fourth out of the top 10 counties with populations of less than 150,000.

"Receiving this award for the fourth consecutive year validates our work and speaks volumes about the lean team of dedicated employees who make every effort to provide the most innovative and efficient technology to both our employees and our citizens," said Phil Martin, IT Director for Montgomery County. 

The survey results are based on 10 characteristics that comprise Digital Counties to include:

  1. Open: Transparency/ Open Data / Data Governance;
  2. Mobile: Mobility/ Mobile Applications;
  3. Engaged: Social Media/ Portal/ Citizen Engagement;
  4. Collaborative: Shared Services/Collaboration Initiatives;
  5. Secure: Cybersecurity Measures/ Initiatives;
  6. Staffed/ Supported: Hiring and Retaining Competent IT Personnel;
  7. Connected: Broadband/Wireless Infrastructure;
  8. Efficient: Budget/Cost Control/ Performance Measures;
  9. Resilient: Disaster Recovery/ Continuity of Operations; and
  10. Innovation and Best Practices.

"Digital counties are leveraging technology to improve the ways they conduct business and engage with citizens in increasingly innovative and exciting ways,” said Todd Sander, executive director, CDG. “The Center for Digital Government congratulates this year’s winners for their work to reduce costs, encourage citizen engagement, increase efficiencies and proactively address citizen expectations."
