Walk-A-Thon to benefit Supplies for Seniors
RSVP will host a Walk-A-Thon on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 10-12 at the Christiansburg Recreation Center to benefit the 12th Annual Supplies for Seniors program. Michael Barber, Mayor of Christiansburg, will lead the first lap of our Walk-A-Thon at 10:15 am. Participants are encouraged to form teams this year to increase participation! The instructions and sponsor sheets are available by contacting the RSVP office at 540-382-5775. A minimum pre-registration of $5 is required. You may walk and obtain sponsors or sponsor someone else to walk. All participants will receive a goody bag and lunch provided by the Christiansburg Recreation Center. All proceeds will go to purchase basic household and personal care items for approximately 150 homebound seniors and veterans. If you have any questions, please call the office. We hope to see you there.
Fall Harvest Celebration
The Meadowbrook Public Library will hold its Fall Harvest Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be music, vendors, hayrides, and food available! Volunteers are needed to bake cakes and brownies to support the library, and we are still collecting plastic bags and hats to donate towards their fall craft.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley is asking for volunteers to help out in the ReStore. The ReStore sells new and gently used furniture, appliances, home goods, building materials, and many other items that help fund Habitat for Humanity’s building projects throughout the NRV. Volunteers are needed to help run the cash register, assist customers in finding what they need, stock store shelves, organize the ReStore, and move lightweight furniture.
Additionally, Habitat for Humanity of the NRV recently broke ground on their largest construction project to date. It will include seven townhouses in downtown Blacksburg and volunteers will be needed as soon as late October/early November.
If you’re interested in either volunteer opportunity, then please contact Sara Bohn, Deputy Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also call the ReStore at (540) 381-1155.
Montgomery County Christmas Store - Grandparents Corner
The Christmas Store is currently accepting donations of clear zippered storage bags to be used to store Lego sets for children. Many people donate plastic trash bags of Legos with nothing to put them in, and this will make the items more attractive for grandparents to give to their grandchild for Christmas. Please bring your donations to the RSVP office by September 30.
