Montgomery County 4-H Reality Store

The Montgomery County Cooperative Extension is holding their Reality Store on Friday, April 6 from 10:25 a.m. to 1:55 p.m. at Christiansburg High School. Reality Store is a budgeting exercise in which volunteers role play with the students. Volunteers are needed for the following shifts: 10:25 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 1:55 p.m.  If you can work one or two of the shifts, call the RSVP office.

Chocolate Festival 2018

The Rotary Club of Blacksburg has requested our help for the 2018 Chocolate Festival on Saturday, April 14. This festival is one of the Club's main fundraising events to support the Montgomery County Christmas Store, Women's Resource Center, Community Health Center, Interfaith Food Pantry, and $12,000 in high school scholarships! Volunteers are needed to help set up from 8-10 a.m., help with activities for kids from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., and serve as chocolate tasting site monitors from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Volunteers will need to check in at the Rotary registration tent at the corner of Main Street and College Avenue a few minutes before the scheduled time. A shirt will be provided for new volunteers. Also, when you check out from your shift, you will receive three tasting tickets as a thank you for your time! Montgomery County’s Broomin’ & Bloomin’ is Saturday, April 28!

Citizens and social, civic, and church groups are invited to participate in this annual litter pickup event. Volunteers are needed to help clean up roadsides, parks, streams, school grounds, and other public properties.

Trash bags, gloves, and safety vests are provided. Filled trash bags are picked up from the roadside or cleanup site. Please talk to your school, church, civic or scouting group and consider participating in this event. Volunteers may choose the site or select from locations needing to be cleaned. MCEAP

Volunteers are needed to perform grant research and writing to help the organization obtain funds for a new building.  Volunteers are also needed to assist with item pickup on Fridays.  Item pickup requires owning a truck and the ability to lift heavy objects.  For more information, call RSVP.

Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Center

Volunteers are currently needed to help with dog walking and cat socialization, answer phones and provide directions at the front desk, send thank you notes to donors, drive animals to the vet, help with laundry, and clean litter boxes and kennels. Volunteers must attend a training session, read the volunteer handbook, and sign a waiver to participate. Call RSVP for more details.

AARP Mother’s Day Food Drive

The AARP Blacksburg Chapter needs your help with their Mother’s Day Food Drive! They are collecting food to help Mothers with babies and small children in elementary schools. The following items can be delivered to the Blacksburg Community Center during the AARP Monthly Meeting on April 17 at 11:30 a.m. Items needed include: Diapers, Pull-Ups, Baby Wipes, Baby Food (jars), Baby Oatmeal, Infant Formula, Toddler Treats (Graduates), Packs of Peanut Butter or Cheese Crackers, Packs of Quaker Chewy Bars, Individual servings of Apple Sauce, Individual serving bags of Chips, Individual serving bags of Cookies, Individual servings of Cereal, Cereal Bars, Individual servings of Soup, and Individual Fruit Cups.

Postal Food Drive

The 26th annual Stamp Out Hunger Postal Food Drive is set for Saturday, May 12. The drive is the largest one-day collection event in the nation. Please leave non-perishable food products in a bag at your mailbox to be picked up by your postal carrier. The food will go to local food pantries. If you would like to help sort the donated food at the Montgomery County Christmas Store on May 14-17 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., give us a call.
