Sponsored walkers will receive a free pancake breakfast. However, sponsorships are not required to participate!  T-shirts will be available for new walkers.

All proceeds will go to purchase basic household and personal care items for approximately 200 homebound seniors and veterans.  We hope to see you there!

Meet & Greet

A Meet & Greet will be held in the Activity Room of our office on Thursday, Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to noon.  You may stop by any time during this period. This is a chance for newly enrolled volunteers to learn more about RSVP, the many volunteer opportunities available, and reporting volunteer hours. Light refreshments will be available. Don’t forget to bring a friend who would like to join RSVP!

Friends of the Library

Do you have bookkeeping experience?  If so, the Friends of the Library is looking for a volunteer to serve as the treasurer of the Friends Board. This position consists of presenting a financial report during their monthly meetings. The meetings last about an hour and a half and rotate between the public libraries in Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and Shawsville. The treasurer also makes deposits at a local bank at his or her convenience, usually twice a month.  Please call RSVP if you are interested in this opportunity.

The Meadowbrook Public Library will hold its Fall Harvest Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be music, vendors, hayrides, and food available! Volunteers are needed to bake cakes and brownies to support the library, and we are still collecting plastic bags and hats to donate towards their fall craft.

Please call the RSVP office for more details.

Montgomery County Regional Tourism Office

The Montgomery County Regional Tourism Office is responsible for promoting the destination to visitors and to also assist visitors and residents with area information when in market. Currently, they have two locations. Each location has a site supervisor and an information desk where area information is available. One location is at the County Government Center in Christiansburg and the other is at the Community Arts Information Office on College Avenue in Blacksburg.

They currently have one work-study student in Christiansburg and one in Blacksburg. They would like to augment this staffing with 1-2 volunteers, per site. The Christiansburg site operational hours would be scheduled during the work week of Monday-Friday, sometime between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Blacksburg site would be similar however, they also want to staff that site during the significant visitation events such as Virginia Tech home games, graduations, and family weekends. This could involve weekends and evenings.

These positions require regularly interfacing with the public. It is an excellent opportunity for someone who would like to work with the public in a fun environment. It is a plus to be familiar with the area, but this is something in which they are able to provide training if needed. You may choose the dates and times that work with your schedule. Call RSVP to sign up or for more information.
