Dog tags

Dog tags go on sale Nov. 1 at the Treasurer's office and the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. Dog tag purchases are due by Jan. 31 of each year.

All dogs four months of age and older are required to have a dog tag. Dogs and domesticated cats must be vaccinated for rabies by four months of age by a licensed veterinarian. You must present a copy of the vaccination certification, signed by the veterinarian, specifying the date of the vaccination, the expiration date, a brief description of the dog, sex of the dog and name and address of the animal's owner when purchasing a dog tag. The certification of vaccination must be marked spayed or neutered in order to purchase an unsexed tag. If you are purchasing a kennel tag you must present the certifications of vaccination for all dogs kept in the kennel.

Annual dog tag fees
  • Male dog - $5
  • Female dog - $5
  • Unsexed (spayed or neutered) dog - $3
  • 20 dog kennel tag - $25
  • 50 dog kennel tag - $35
