Courthouse Updates

Montgomery County broke ground for the new Courthouse on Sept. 18, 2009. The 102,500-square-foot building faces Main Street in downtown Christiansburg. It sits adjacent to the current Courthouse.

Once the new Courthouse is complete, the more than 30-year-old current Courthouse will be renovated and used as a public safety facility to house the Sheriff's office.

The project architect, Thompson & Litton, has incorporated nine courtrooms and office space to meet projected needs based on population estimates for the next 25 years. The state-of-the-art building will feature a two-level parking structure and enhanced security, including secure transfer of inmates to the courtrooms.

DeVere Construction Company of Alpena, Mi., was awarded the contract to build the Courthouse.
