The County operates 10 staffed recycling and collection sites where County citizens (including residents of Blacksburg and Christiansburg) may deposit household waste and recyclables (aluminum, steel and bimetal cans, glass, #1 and #2 plastic, newspaper and glossy magazines and catalogs, corrugated cardboard, and used motor oil and anti-freeze), appliances, mattresses, furniture, etc. No metal fuel tanks, oil drums, cylinders, yard waste, commercial or construction waste, animal parts, ashes, or automotive parts are accepted. Sites are open every day except the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas; Mon.-Fri. 7 a.m.-7 p.m. (6 p.m. in winter), Sat. 8 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sun. noon-6 p.m.
