The General Registrar of Elections registers voters, maintains voting records and establishes precinct boundaries and polling locations for the County's 22 precincts. The staff conducts elections, supervises poll workers on Election Day and tallies election results. Any U.S. citizen and Virginia resident, 18 years or older on Election Day, may vote.
Effective Jan. 1, 2010: Voter Registration Period has been Extended (Code of Virginia §§ 24.2-416; this information is from the Virginia State Board of Elections website):
- General election registration deadline is now 22 days before election
- Primary election registration deadline is now 22 days before election
- Special election registration deadline is now 13 days before election
- Special election (called by Governor) registration deadline is now 7 days before election
