Facts for Voters

In order to vote in any election in Virginia, a person must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of Virginia, 18 years old by General Election day and registered to vote in the precinct in which you reside.

You may register to vote year round with the exception of 29 days prior to a general or primary election or 13 days prior to any special election. Voter registrations are available at the County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St., Suite 1F in Christiansburg, the Department of Motor Vehicles, all post offices, all libraries, on the Virginia State Board of Elections website and on our Forms & Publications page.

In order to keep your registration active, you must inform the Registrar of any changes to your address or name in writing. Board of Supervisors

Montgomery County has a total population of 94,392. This includes the residents of its two towns - Blacksburg and Christiansburg.

Members are elected from seven districts. Terms are staggered and are for four years. Yearly in January, they elect from their membership a chairman and vice chairman. The Board meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7:15 p.m. at the County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg. Agendas and minutes are online at MontVa.com. Regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast Board of Supervisor meetings on weekdays at 8 a.m., 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. (no meeting shown on Tuesday morning. Montgomery County School Board

The Montgomery County School district extends county-wide and includes the two towns. It serves approximately 9,400 students in 22 schools. Full-day kindergarten is provided.

Beginning with the November 1995 election, school board members were elected. In 1997, the phasing in of elected school boards was complete. Terms are staggered and are for four years. The board meets the first and third Tuesdays each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg.

Town of Christiansburg

Christiansburg has an area of 13.9 square miles and a population of approximately 17,300.

Christiansburg Town elections are held in May of even numbered years.

Town Council meetings are held the first and third Tuesdays of each month, 7:30 p.m., at the Town Municipal Building, 100 East Main St., Christiansburg. Meetings are open to the public.

Town of Blacksburg

Blacksburg has an area of 19.4 square miles and a population of approximately 39,600. Virginia Tech, located in Blacksburg, has an enrollment of about 26,000; approximately 9,000 students live on campus.

Blacksburg Town elections are held in November of odd numbered years.

Town council meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesdays each month at 7:30 p.m. and are open to the public.
