Whitethorne is located in the McCoy area on the beautiful New River. Whitethorne boat launch/landing has a concrete ramp to access the New River for easy launching of water craft. This popular section of the river offers anglers some of the best fishing that makes the New River so famous. Along with trailer parking, there is open space for picnicking and enjoying the river's edge.

The New River is the hot spot for fishing in Montgomery County. Designated as a State Scenic River, the New River is the second oldest river in the world, with only the Nile being older. Another unique feature is that the New River is one of the few that flows northward.  Most say it is also the best Smallmouth Bass fishing in the state.
