Emergency Services

Emergency Services provides preplanning, preparation, mitigation, response and recovery for natural and man-made disasters and major emergencies. This includes provisions for law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical response, specialty rescue, emergency communications, enhanced 9-1-1 and hazardous material responses for the Town of Blacksburg, Town of Christiansburg and rural Montgomery County.


  • The Board of Supervisors passed a resolution honoring the Shawsville Volunteer Rescue Squad for its 50th anniversary on July 4, 2014.
  • A resolution of appreciation was presented to Jimmy Epperly by the Board of Supervisors for his service on the Fire and Rescue Commission.
  • Former Elliston Volunteer Fire Department Chief Pug Wells recognized at 2013 Virginia Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service in Richmond.
