Clerk of Circuit Court
Marriage Licenses

The Montgomery County Circuit Court issues marriage licenses from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday - Friday. Both the bride and groom must be present for the application process. You must bring a valid, non-expired government issued photo ID with you to apply.  Please contact our office with any questions regarding this requirement.

A marriage license is valid for sixty (60) days from the date it is issued. The marriage license is valid immediately upon issuance - there is no waiting period. If the couple is not married within sixty (60) days of obtaining the license, the license is null and void and can no longer be used -- a new marriage license must be obtained.

Once issued, the license is valid anywhere in the state of Virginia. Virginia marriage licenses are not valid outside the state limits. The couple must be married by a minister or officiant who is authorized to perform marriages within Virginia.

Currently, the cost of a marriage license is $30. The application is a one-page document and asks for the full names of bride and groom, residential information, dates of birth, as well as full names of bride's and groom's parents. View and/or print the application here.

If you wish to be married at the courthouse, you must make your own arrangements with a minister or marriage officiant. Neither the judges nor the Circuit Court Clerk currently perform weddings. Two marriage celebrants currently serve the County. Here is the contact information for the marriage celebrants.
