The Clerk of the Circuit Court is responsible for recording documents in the categories below and maintaining them in accordance with state law. 

Each circuit court clerk's office in Virginia holds only those records pertaining to actions or filings in that jurisdiction's circuit court.  For example, only marriage licenses issued in Montgomery County are recorded in Montgomery County.  When researching land and probate records you may find that the trail of records flows from one locality to another.  Staff will be happy to provide you with information on how to contact other offices of clerks of circuit court in Virginia.
