About the Commonwealth's Attorney: Commonwealth's Attorney Mary Pettitt has served in the Commonwealth's
Attorney's Office since 2005. Mary is a native Virginian who graduated
from the College of William and Mary with a degree in Business
Administration from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of
Richmond. Prior to working for Montgomery County, she served as a
prosecutor in Roanoke County and Gloucester County.
About the office: The Commonwealth's Attorney serves as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the County, prosecutes all felonies and certain misdemeanors and traffic offenses, and advises citizens, law enforcement agencies, and magistrates regarding interpretation of criminal law.
The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office consists of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorneys and support staff.
